For the expert user, the option still exists to enter their own detailed information. To make the program even easier to use a number of standard input options for the most common GSHP situations are provided to the user. These GUI screens make the program exceptionally easy to use. GEO2D has a user friendly interface where inputs and outputs are all handled with GUI (graphical user interface) screens. Because of the small simulation times with GEO2D, a number of attractive features have been added to it. For a similar simulation, GEO3D takes days of computational time. The computational times required for GEO2D are reasonable, a few minutes for a 20 year simulation. The price paid for the three-dimensional detail is the large computational times required with GEO3D. Thus these computer tools simulate the coupled performance of the ground loop and the heat pump. Real heat pump characteristics are entered into the program and used to model the heat pump performance. Both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional computer programs developed as part of this work are based upon a detailed finite volume solution of the energy equation for the ground and ground loop. Lastly COP (coefficient of performance) results as a function of time are provided. The heating and cooling loads of the building being fitted with a GSHP are determined with the computer program developed by DOE called ENERGYPLUS. The heat rates between the ground and the working fluid are calculated as a function time and position along the ground loop.

Heat rates between the heat pump and the building indoor environment, between the working fluid and the heat pump, and between the working fluid and the ground are computed. In addition to temperature information, detailed heat rate information at several locations as a function of time is determined. The fluid temperatures from and to the heat pump, as a function of time, are also provided. Complete temperature profiles throughout the ground, casing, tube wall, and fluid are provided as a function of time. A unique more » aspect of both these simulation tools is the complete temperature profile information calculated and presented. Both of these simulation tools provide an extensive array of results to the user. Two such tools were developed as part of this DOE (Department of Energy) grant the first is a two-dimensional computer program called GEO2D and the second is a three-dimensional computer program called GEO3D. This report is a compilation of the work that has been done on the grant DE-EE0002805 entitled ?Finite Volume Based Computer Program for Ground Source Heat Pump Systems.? The goal of this project was to develop a detailed computer simulation tool for GSHP (ground source heat pump) heating and cooling systems.

#Geo3d matlab 64 Bit#
If this program is not available on your computer you can download the program MCRInstaller.exe, the 64 bit version, from the MATLAB website or from the Geothermal Data Repository. In order to run GEO2D access to MATLAB is required. These make entering data simple and they produce many plotted results that are easy to understand. GEO2D is a user friendly program that uses a graphical user interface for inputs and outputs.

This is a great convenience for the user because heating and cooling loads are an input to GEO2D.
#Geo3d matlab software#
The version of GEO2D in the attached file has been coupled to the DOE heating and cooling load software called ENERGYPLUS. On top of this information from an economic comparison between the geothermal system simulated and a comparable air heat pump systems or a comparable gas, oil or propane heating systems with a vapor compression air conditioner. Many results are produced by GEO2D as a function of time and position, such as heat transfer rates, temperatures and heat pump performance. GEO2D simulates the heat pump and ground more » loop as a system. This program also models the heat pump in conjunction with the heat transfer occurring. Both horizontal and vertical wells can be simulated with this program, but it should be noted that the vertical wall is modeled as a single tube.
